GreenPower Motor Company manufactures a complete range of medium- and heavy-duty all-electric vehicles, including models with lower and high floors. The EV Star Cab & Chassis is their most popular vehicle and can be adapted to suit a variety of applications. The design of the platform is based on a simple sheet of paper, which allows for optimum placement of the battery and a lower center-of-gravity. This leads to better range/payload ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX is designed to meet the needs of mid to last mile refrigerated delivery as well as catering applications. The refrigerated truck's class 4 configuration's one interior wall structure and higher insulation levels compared to traditional trucks enable seamless sanitation, better temperature control and a longer life. The EV Star REEFERX offers superior cargo capacity and a payload that is industry-leading to range for zero-emission transport of passengers or goods.
GreenPower partnered with Perrone Robotics in order to equip the EV Star with TONY (To navigate you) autonomous vehicle systems. This will enable fleets to easily move to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star will also be capable of wireless charging at 75 kW.
We had the opportunity to test drive the EV9 for several hours on a local highway and found it easy to drive and comfortable for long distances. The EV9 can block wind and road noise while driving on the highway. It is smooth on ruts and humps. The acceleration is quite fast and the car has adjustable regenerative braking that allows "one pedal driving" by simply taking off the accelerator.
The EV9 has excellent range and can be fully recharged in just three hours at home, or using any commercial charger. Drivers have the option of choosing between two operating modes including eco mode and sports mode. The eco mode is a preference for the cruise control and torque while the sport mode is designed to maximize speed and handling. Both modes are enjoyable to drive, and offer an unforgettable experience for those who haven't experienced driving an electric vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other e-vehicle offerings including a multi-purpose all-electric minibus called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA-compliant and can be used for executive shuttles, microtransit or transit vanpools, buses, or paratransit vehicles.
green energy mobility scooters is already producing around 10 EV Star buses per month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is attempting to replace their fleet of diesel vehicles with 100 electric vehicles. GreenPower will increase production to meet the demand of the Biden Administration which wants to electrify all school buses in America. Their EV Star buses are the first of their kind to be Altoona tested and FMVSS-certified, Buy America compliant, and ADA conforming. This means they will be eligible for federal transit assistance grants. We will be following the AV Star as it makes its demonstration tour later this year. We will be sharing more details on this exciting EV.
